Sex is meant to be wonderful and pleasurable.
So, why isn’t it?
Sex and Self-Forgetfulness is a guide for Christian couples to discover (and live out!) a more biblical vision for sex.
The Christian secret to a fulfilling sex life isn’t that secret; it’s about living in our bedrooms the same way that Jesus calls us to live everywhere: laying down our lives to serve others.
This 30-day devotional will strengthen your marriage and make sex more wonderful for both spouses.

If you desire for sex to be…
- Safe

What People Are Saying…
- “Sex and Self-Forgetfulness is hardly the first book for Christians that covers sexuality, yet it does cover it in some unique ways and from a unique angle. I believe many couples will find it challenging, encouraging, and helpful.” — Tim Challies, Pastor, Author, Blogger (read the full review)
- “Sex and Self-Forgetfulness paints a beautiful picture of how fulfilling, enjoyable, and honoring marital intimacy can be (and is meant to be). It upholds the dignity of women, debunking the idea that sex is just for men, and calls husbands to view sex as an opportunity to serve their wives. This is a must-read for all married Christian couples.” — Rebecca Vavilov, PhD, BCDNH, LEHP, Fertility Awareness Educator; founder, Ova Wellness
- “In a culture obsessed with self and sexual pleasure, Doug Hanna wisely shows that true joy in God’s gift of sex is found in self-forgetful love. This book offers rich biblical wisdom, honest hope for couples facing sexual brokenness, and a gracious path toward deeper intimacy and lasting fulfillment as God designed.” — Steve Watters, Coauthor of Start Your Family: Inspiration for Having Babies; FamilyMaking.com
- “If I know that a couple is struggling with sexual intimacy in their marriage, Sex and Self-Forgetfulness is the book I will recommend! With great pastoral care, Doug has given a Scripture-filled roadmap for Christian couples to understand God’s design for sex, his redeeming grace for sin, and his delight in their pursuit of selfless, self-giving love for each other.” — Mark Sanders, President, Harvest USA; coauthor of Discovery: A Biblical Support Group Curriculum for Men Pursuing Sexual Integrity
- “This book blends a beautiful picture of God’s design for marital intimacy with practical wisdom for Christian couples living in a world of extreme sexual brokenness. Hanna’s work is perfect for getting new marriages off to a great start and for helping couples who have struggled with sexual satisfaction in marriage for years. Highly recommended!” — Dustin Bruce, Dean, Boyce College
- “Hanna compassionately and courageously guides the reader to a vision of sex in marriage that is centered on Christ and built upon self-giving love. This book is valuable, redemptive, and highly practical.” — Ashlee Schmidt, review on Goodreads
- “Some readers may want more practical, step-by-step guidance. This book leans more theological and heart-oriented than tactical. But honestly, that’s part of its strength. It doesn’t just try to fix behavior—it aims at transformation and for that I’m grateful. This is a wise, needed, and refreshing contribution to the conversation around sex and marriage. Especially in a culture that constantly tells us to look inward, this book quietly—and powerfully—calls us to look outward. And in doing so, it points us back to Jesus.” — Drew Hensley, Pastor of ONE Fellowship, Charleston, SC (read full review)
- “Doug does well what a lot of Christian books on sex struggle to do:
1- Talks about sex honestly, without being vague or crass.
2- Is deeply practical for everyday people.
3- Grounds everything in a clear, Scripture-shaped framework.” — Josh Powell, review on Amazon
